About us
Warnemuende’s location on the German coastline has created a strong bond between the villagers and the sea. For centuries, many able sailors from Warnemuende have manned fishing boats and mercantile navy ships.
It is no wonder that a community like Warnemuende hosts a choir dedicated specifically to shanty or seamen’s songs. "De Klaashahns" are enchanting with their rough but romantic songs about the sailor’s life.
The Shanty choir "De Klasshahns" was founded in 1964. The choir has approximately 35 members. They perform in traditional costume, and are accompanied by up to three accordions and three guitars. The relaxed and enthusiastic manner demonstrated in the choir’s performances have greatly contributed to its present fame. |
